I watched the game live and the hit on Steve Smith didn’t really seem that bad. After seeing Smith not get up quickly, I took a second look at the play simply because Smith is one of the most hard nosed players on the field, nothing keeps him down. The hit actually was very crucial and detrimental to Smith and the Ravens because it caused him to miss the rest of the game. Now, he has already been ruled out for the team’s Week 5 matchup against the Cleveland Browns.
According to coach Harbaugh, Smith has “some small micro fractures in his back. I think he’s going to be OK in the long run.”
Smith’s injury is viewed as a week-to-week type injury. His presence on the field will be missed as he leads all Baltimore receivers with 29 receptions, 373 yards and two touchdowns. All other receivers have 25 receptions for a total of 292 yards collectively.
Smith won’t need surgery but the team did make a trade with the St. Louis Rams to bring in wide receiver Chris Givens as an insurance policy.
