Dennis Pitta wants to leave the NFL on his own terms, but if doctors have their way, the Ravens tight end may have played his final game.
Doctors have advised Pitta, who underwent hip surgery twice in the last two seasons, not to play because it isn’t safe, ESPN’s Jamison Hensley reports.

John Harbaugh said Pitta has looked good in practice, but that the decision on his return will ultimately be up to the tight end and his doctors.
“Dennis is going to play if he can,” Harbaugh said Monday. “There’s no doubt in my mind, based on what I’ve talked to him (about). If it’s safe and he feels like he can get out there and the hip is responding well, he’s going to play. And if it’s not safe, then he’s not going to play.”
Pitta could ignore that advice and try to play anyway.
He returned to practice Oct. 21, opening a 21-day window for him to be activated to the 53-man roster.
