When LeBron decided to go back to Cleveland, he had a plan and he made sure that he had a voice in every roster move. The Cavs had just selected Andrew Wiggins as their number 1 pick and some people were excited at the idea of the duo playing together, Wiggins being the Pippen version for LeBron but for some reason Andrew Wiggins’ name wasn’t part of his homecoming letter.
Couple weeks later, Wiggins was shipped in a mega trade that landed Kevin Love to the Cavs and sent him to Minnesota. The Cavs and LeBron saw in him a big asset to make that trade happen and we concluded that maybe that’s why LeBron didn’t mention him in his coming home letter but King James had another explanation for it.
“I didn’t know the kid, really,” James told Yahoo Sports. “I knew Dion. I knew Kyrie. I knew Tristan. I knew all the guys that I was playing with before. I didn’t know the kid, so it wasn’t no big issue to me.”
I’m not 100% convinced with LeBron James’ version but Wiggins is not crying over it, he developed into a very good player in Minnesota and is one of the main pieces to a very promising roster that will make some noise if they say together which James mentioned prior to their matchup on Friday.
I think the best thing about it is he’s getting an opportunity. He doesn’t have to wait in the shadows for anybody,” James told Yahoo. “He’s getting the opportunity to play and show everybody what he’s able to do, and it’s tough because the West has been so thick the [last] few years; there’s not a lot of room to win a bunch of a games. But I think for him, the sky could be the limit.”
The trade has worked for both parties, Kevin Love after a rocky year, seems to be very comfortable in David Blatt’s system and Wiggins is establishing himself as a star in the league and can use that snub for motivation for the rest of his career.
