I love Redskins general manager Scot McCloughan — but we all know that any positive talk involving RG3 returning to Washington — is simply to pump up his trade value.
Making the rounds with reporters at the Senior Bowl on Wednesday — McCloughan talked RG3, keeping Kirk Cousins (“an option”) — and his discomfort with paying the former Michigan State quarterback, that $20 million under the franchise tag.
”Going forward, of course we’d like to have him around. The philosophy with me and the organization is we won’t talk contract stuff with the media,” McCloughan said. ”But I want him to be part of the Redskins.”
”The thing that’s good about where we’re at right now is we have until March 9” to release Griffin, McCloughan said.
”He’s under contract,” the GM said. ”And that’s where we’re at right now.”
McCloughan will likely cut Griffin III and focus on using some of that free agency money to ensure his quarterback has weapons and can be protected.
