The Brooklyn Nets Fired Coach Lionel Hollins Sunday. And it seems like the Nets have no problem with that. According to Andy Vasquez of The Record sources around the team says it isn’t one player who liked Hollins.
They didn’t have a problem with his game plan, but players though that Hollins was arrogant and players had a problem respecting him because of that. Players who talked back to Hollins were sent to his doghouse for long periods of time, according to the source.
The Nets started the season 10-27 and the team isn’t talented but Hollins approach didn’t make it any better. Interim head coach Tony Brown strength in coaching is his positivity the team as something Hollins lack that during this horrible stint as head coach for the Nets
Nets beat the Knicks Wednesday in a 4th quarter comeback. Power forward Thaddeus Young was asked about interim head coach Tony Brown his answer was interesting. “It’s huge. When your coach is not panicking and he’s staying positive and he’s continued to motivate us, it’s huge for us as far as an energy standpoint,” Young said. “It makes us want to continue to go out there and continue to play, and it doesn’t keep us thinking about what’s happening before as much.”
Hollins normally seen as a likeable and standup guy seem to let the loses get to him. Players including Shane Larkin has already expressed after two games how Brown has given them more freedom and seem to be going in the right direction.
Will Hollins land another coaching gig? I guess we will have to wait to find out.
