We reported on Joaquín ‘El Chapo’ Guzman attempting to contact actors for his BIOPIC — when he was captured by Mexican authorities six months after tunneling out of a maximum security prison.
But what I thought was a joke — is serious business — as famed actor and director Sean Penn met with the Sinaloa Cartel honcho for a Rolling Stone magazine interview while he was on the run.
Some of the quotes are chilling — as the legendary organized crime figure bragged about the tons of cocaine and heroin he’s responsible for pushing all across the globe.
“I supply more heroin, methamphetamine, cocaine and marijuana than anybody else in the world. I have a fleet of submarines, airplanes, trucks and boats.”
He sits on an estimated $1 billion fortune — mostly earned through war and blood-shed — but considers himself a classy — poetic man.
“Look, all I do is defend myself, nothing more,” he told Mr. Penn. “But do I start trouble? Never.”
Penn — who spent seven hours with El Chapo — is open about using burner phones (Tracphones) — destroying one per contact, one per day.
It’s an awesome read, and yet I’m interested in knowing if Penn can face any type of charges for interviewing a well-known drug-lord, and not providing any of that information to authorities?
