1. Kansas Jayhawks – In a season that’s seen inconsistent play every night, Bill Self’s squad has been the lone steady rock thus far (could change tonight).
The Jayhawks have won nine straight, which includes wins over Kentucky, Oklahoma, West Virginia and Baylor.
As things look right now, it’ll be hard to argue against Kansas being the number one overall seed.
Opponents this week: @ Texas and vs. Iowa State.
2. Villanova Wildcats – How could Villanova only drop one spot after taking a loss?
Well, first of all, they lost to a really good Xavier team on the road. Secondly, teams behind them lost, so there wasn’t too many options to realistically place over the Wildcats.
Opponents this week: vs. DePaul and vs. Georgetown.
3. Michigan State Spartans – No need to look at your calendar to find out when March is coming. All you have to do is look at Sparty and if they’re peaking at the right time, more often then not March is near.
From a pure talent standpoint, Denzel Valentine is the only guy on the roster that ‘wows’ you, but somehow Tom Izzo always finds a way to piece together a very good ball club.
Let’s just say, it wouldn’t be a bad idea to put Michigan State in your final four.
Opponents this week: @ Rutgers and vs. Ohio State.
4. Xavier Musketeers – Talk about a jekyll and hyde week.
After defeating top ranked Villanova, the Musketeers dropped the ball by losing to Seton Hall 90-81, which was a monumental victory for the Pirates as they’re looking to land a spot in the field of 64.
Opponent this week: vs. Creighton.
5. Miami Hurricanes – You’ll be hard pressed to find a team that had a better week than the Canes.
Miami defeated two ranked teams (Virginia and Louisville).
With the regular season nearing an end, the Canes will be looking to make a push at a number one seed.
Opponents this week: @ Notre Dame and @ Virginia Tech.
