BSO Top 20: Who’s #1?, UNC Goes Backwards & WVU Surging

Villanova 1

New week, new number one.

Those five words have been the theme of the season for the most part. With that being said, does anyone even want to be ranked number one at this point?

Well, someone has to be hold down the spot for now and this week, it’s none other than Jay Wright’s Villanova Wildcats squad.

1. Villanova Wildcats – With one (North Carolina) and two (Oklahoma) both going down Saturday, it opened up room for Villanova to creep in at the top spot.

The Wildcats are currently (20-3) overall and (10-1) in Big East play.

They’re fresh off a big time 72-60 road win at Providence.

Opponents this week: @ DePaul and vs. St. John’s.

2. Xavier Muskateers – Two Big East teams in the top two?

Say it ain’t so, but the Xavier Muskateers have earned this position.

This ball club is (21-2) on the season, which includes their most recent win over a solid Marquette team.

What makes this team so fun to watch is their unselfishness. They have four players averaging double figure points per game.

Opponents this week: @ Creighton and @ Butler.

3. Oklahoma Sooners – In what has been a crazy season, it’s amazing that Oklahoma’s first bad loss took place a couple of days ago in Manhattan.

Up to this point, Buddy Hield and company have just ran through inferior competition, but it finally caught up to them.

Opponents this week: vs. Texas and vs. Kansas.

4. Maryland Terrapins – Are we at the point where Maryland is just who they are?

This can be taken as a positive or negative for the simply fact that this team struggles to dominant lesser opponents, yet they still win.

For example, Maryland had to squeeze out a victory against a Nebraska team that shouldn’t give them much problems.

On the flip side, the Terps handled a good Purdue team over the weekend.

Opponent this week: vs. Wisconsin.

5. Kansas Jayhawks – Grant it, Kansas played Kansas State and TCU last week, but Bill Self’s squad looks to be playing how they were before their rough patch following the triple overtime victory over Oklahoma.

We’ll really see where Kansas is at after this week’s gauntlet.

Opponents this week: vs. West Virginia and @ Oklahoma.
