When it comes to pure domination, there’s probably no one who did it better than Shaquille O’Neal.
For his career, O’Neal averaged 23.7 points, 10.9 rebounds and 2.3 blocks per game.
However, his best years were undoubtedly in a Los Angeles Lakers uniform, where he won three consecutive finals MVP awards.
With that being said, when Shaq left the city of angels, he went on to help the Miami Heat capture their first championship as an organization.
For his contributions, Pat Riley and company have decided it’s only right for the ‘diesel’ to have his jersey retired in South Beach.
Shaquille O’Neal is one of the truly elite players in the history of the game and one of the greatest players to ever wear a HEAT uniform. He took us to another level as a basketball franchise while leading us to our first NBA championship. Retiring his number in the rafters, along with HEAT greats Alonzo Mourning and Tim Hardaway, is something we are very proud of.
During his three and a half seasons in the red and black, Shaq averaged 19.6 points, 9.1 rebounds and nearly two blocks per game.
Those numbers are impressive, but considering he did it for a short amount of time, does that warrant a ceremony next week?
I don’t think so, but Riley understands the Shaq brand and how big of a deal it will be to have his jersey and name in the rafters.
