Once again the Dallas Cowboys have found another way to make headlines around the league. Owner Jerry Jones truly believes that the Cowboys are on the brink of doing something special. Jones spoke with the media to discuss his current quarterback situation, and made quite a comparison.
“You look at examples of Rodgers, and that he got to come in there and work behind Brett Favre.” said Jones via ESPN’s Todd Archer. “Rodgers saw the most freewheeling successful quarterback there has ever been in the league. He saw what worked and added that to his game. Something like that could happen if we decided to go quarterback at some level.”
To compare Tony Romo to Brett Favre at this stage of his career is a bit of a head scratcher. Tony Romo has yet to win a one Super Bowl title in his career let alone get to the NFC Championship game. Romo hasn’t proven to be quite as durable as Favre either as he has suffered multiple injuries throughout his NFL career. Kellen Moore hasn’t proven to be anywhere close to the talent of Aaron Rodgers as of yet so that is quite a reach at the moment. Unless they believe he will be the next Rodgers the Cowboys may need to go find another quarterback.
Just to play a bit of devils advocate the Dallas Cowboys could be on the brink of breaking through. With the massive offensive line that they have, and a defense which has improved over the past couple of years not many pieces are needed to make this team a legit contender. The Cowboys will have the fourth pick in the NFL Draft this year which some scouts are predicting them to take Joey Bosa from Ohio State if he’s still on the board.
Jerry Jones has no doubt heaped some more pressure on his team which has yet to live up to a expectations over the years. If they could get healthy and stay healthy they could very well prove their owner right. In the end it will all come down to the man under center Tony Romo.
