A Baltimore schools police officer is in trouble after the video above surfaced that shows him, unprovoked, continuously slapping a 16-year old boy. Details from The NY Daily News:
Officer Anthony Spence admitted last week that he was the subject of a criminal investigation involving the March 1 incident at the REACH Partnership School. He claimed the news media would “twist” the story if he elaborated.
“Right now I’m the bad guy,” he said.
Spence was also charged with second-degree child abuse by a custodian and misconduct in office. A second officer who was also present, 53-year-old Saverna Bias, was also charged with second-degree assault and misconduct in office.
There was rumor of the student not actually being a student of the high school he was in, but it was later disputed by a lawyer. The student was hospitalized with rib and face injuries.
After only watching the 30 seconds out of the probably much longer interaction with the officer and student, it’s clear to me there is no spinning that needs to be done like Spence claims. There are no circumstances I could ever imagine that would warrant a grown man with police training manhandling a 16-year old like that. The kid wasn’t fighting back, just trying to protect his face. What the cop did was despicable and he deserves to be prosecuted to the highest extent of the law- because he acts as the law.
He holds so much power and he is letting his childish anger problems cause him to do things like this. Grow up.
