The music scene in Kansas City is currently on the rise and Dame is one of the major reasons for that. Long gone are the days of mumble trap music in KC.
Sure, hood rap still goes on, but that’s simply not the wave anymore.
Technically, Dame resides in Grandview, Missouri, which is literally just a few miles outside of south Kansas City. For as good as Dame is behind the mic, the 20-year-old didn’t start rapping seriously until this past December.
Dame dropped his first project “20” on New Year’s Eve, which received tons of mad love.
You can check it out here:
For his first project, “20” was a major success, but his latest mixtape “Mad Luv” is what really caught my attention. Dame’s overall sound reminds me a bit of Fab and Big Sean.
With that being said, this mixtape takes you on multiple journeys. From “Kyrie” to “Dear John”, you’ll notice how quickly the emotions on each track can change.

For those outside of Kansas City that don’t know you, what are some interesting facts about you?
For those who don’t know me my initial first love was basketball, I played basketball in college, I’m probably one of the least serious people you’ll meet all I do is joke around, All I do is play 2k, rap, chill wit my ni**as an talk to girls (that’s my bad habit, I’m girl crazy)
Your sound is very different from the traditional KC sound, which makes me ask where did you get your style from?
I’ve always been a hip hop head since I was kid so various artists influence my sound. People like fab an Wayne influence the slick sh*t I say an cole an Casey Veggies are two people I look to also because they rap about there life an thats my thing to. Everything that I speak on in my music is true, even the wild sh*t I say about b*tches
What made you start taking this rap thing seriously?
Well, I always loved rapping but it’s so many rappers in KC that I was scared of being another one on the list. But once school didn’t workout and the girl I was with for two years cheated on me and sh*t, I needed a way to get that pain out so I started writing and then I was recording on a MacBook until I realized how shitty my quality was and then I found Booda my producer on IG and DM em and the rest was history.
The first time I heard you was when I checked out your new mixtape “Mad Luv”. I was instantly rocking with it but I must ask what was the process like coming up with this project?
Man it was crazy, I was just writing hella tryna come up with something as good as my first tape “20” but it was like I was seein myself getting better and better and speaking on experiences I ain’t never spoke on. I was bringing all my bros to every studio session just to keep the vibe coo. It was really just a big ass party while making this.
Lastly, what should the fans be looking out for from Dame the remaining of 2016?
Really 2016 is about me doing videos and shows to get myself out there more for people to see me. I’ve been planning a video for my song “Kyrie” so that’ll be dropping soon and I’m working on a collab tape with my brother O, he’s on the come up as well. That should be dropping on Father’s Day. Also, my next project “21” is going to be dropping on New Years so I’m just out here experiencing new sh*t, going on dates and sh*t trying to get inspired so I can start my writing process for that.
