The Oklahoma City Thunder organization is among at least two dozen universities, businesses and law enforcement groups who are urging Oklahoma’s Senate leader to kill two separate measures that would allow most adults to open carry weapons without training or background checks, according to local CBS affiliate, Oklahoma’s News 9.
The groups all signed the letter to President Pro Tempore Brian Bingman asking him to stop House Bill 3098 and House Joint Resolution 1009, both pending this week in the state Senate.
The bill would allow all adults over 21, without a felony conviction to openly carry firearms without a license, training or background checks.
Of course, the National Rifle Association is gearing up all of its resources available in support of this bill passing.
Either way, the resolution of the Senate vote will seek a public vote on whether to amend the Oklahoma Constitution to make it more difficult for the Legislature to regulate firearms.
