Over two years ago, 276 girls from the Government Girls Secondary School in Chibok, Nigeria were kidnapped by Boko Haram Islamists. Some escaped, but 218 remained missing. On Tuesday, Amina Ali Nkeki became the first to be rescued.
Nkeki, was found in the fringes of the Sambisa forest by a local group of vigilantes that fights Boko Haram. Identified by the vice principal of her school, she had a small child with her that appeared to be about 4 months of age.
Family doctor, Idriss Danladi, told the Associated Press that the young woman, who was already breastfeeding a child, told her mother that some of her classmates had died in captivity and the others are still being held.
She was fetching firewood when intercepted and rescued by the vigilantes. 217 young women remain missing.
