On Tuesday the U.S. Women’s Gymnastics team continued their reign of global dominance by handily defeating the best in the world to once again become Olympic gold medalists in the all-around competition.
As the “Final 5” squad, comprised of Aly Raisman, Simone Biles, Gabby Douglas, Laura Hernandez and Madison Kocian, stood atop awards podium for the playing of the National Anthem, a number of at-home viewers took issue with the fact that Douglas didn’t place her hand over her heart like the rest of her teammates. As the criticism rolled in from social media, the two-time Olympic gold medalist penned a brief response explaining her posture on the podium.
