We can only imagine Brian Kelly’s face when he got this call and realized it was different from one prior. On top of five Notre Dame football players being arrested on marijuana and gun charges, Devin Butler was arrested for battery in a totally separate incident.

South Bend police said Butler was arrested at 1631 South Bend Ave., which is the address of the Linebacker Lounge, a popular bar right off Notre Dame’s campus. Butler was still being held in the St. Joseph County Jail early Saturday morning.

While responding after a rough Friday night that saw six players booked — Notre Dame vice president for public affairs and communications Paul Browne said in a statement that the university will look into further sanctions.

“Any student arrested on a felony charge also faces dismissal from the university,” Browne said.

Butler, a Senior — was expected to miss at least the first month of the season after suffering a broken left foot in the summer.
