Teachers at John Muir Elementary School are about to face criticism from many for wanting to see change. The teachers are coming together to wear Black Lives Matter shirts to show support and oppose “systematic oppression.” A school district spokesperson says that they support what the teachers are doing.
According to King 5 the teacher who came up with the idea was Jennifer Whitney. Whitney wanted to start the discussion about race which many people today do not want to have. Donations helped pay for the shirts and they will be worn Friday, September 16th.
You can expect backlash from a lot of people, but I have to commend the teachers for wanting to see change. Until we have more of these conversations on how to solve these racial issues expect to see more of this.
