Owner, GM & Coach Jerry Jones recently talked to the media about defensive end Randy Gregory. The oft troubled Gregory is currently suspended for violating the league’s substance abuse policy and has been in and out of trouble dating back to college. Despite his troubled past, Jerry says the team is not giving up on Gregory.
Jerry Jones not giving up on Randy Gregory. In regards to his off-field issues: “He’s our baby. He may be an ugly baby, but he’s our baby.”

The Cowboys and Jerry Jones are no strangers to players with off the field issues. We all remember the Greg Hardy signing last season. While the Cowboys hope Gregory can rectify his off field issues and rejoin the team and contribute, not everyone shares in their optimism.
According to The Dallas Morning News former Cowboys great Charles Haley has washed his hands of the Gregory situation. Hayley was brought in to assist the Gregory deal with some of the pressures. But, Hayley has been unable to connect with him:
I’m a guy who’s been through what he’s been through. And I tried to tell the kid, ‘OK, you don’t have to do this for long. Call me. You can come live with me.’ But you know what? You’re going to do A, B and C [if you’re living with me]. But he don’t want to do it, so eff it.
If Hayley can’t reach him, I’m not sure who can. But, the Cowboys seem determined to stick with Gregory. Jerry Jones is right, Gregory is their baby. Let’s hope they can help him grow up.
