Son Keeps Promise to Late Dad; Watched Cubs Game 7 at Cemetery (Video)

Once you start watching the video, you’ll start to think about the one person who would care the most about their team winning if they were to pass away. Wayne Williams is another reason why we love sports.

As much as we may joke about certain fan bases dying before they’ll see a championship, the fact of the matter is, that it’s incredibly true. The Cubs hadn’t won the World Series in 108 years so you can already do the math on how many fans came and are now gone. I’m sure many fans thought about certain loved ones who would’ve love to see this but what Wayne Williams did was just far too touching for words to express.

Wayne Williams remembered a promise to he made to his late father who passed away back in 1980. The promise was that whenever the Cubs would make it, they would watch the World Series together. Williams Sr must be smiling from above.

“I talked it out with my boys forever. I let them know that I told my dad – we had a pact. When the Cubs – not if, when – the Cubs got into the World Series, we would make sure we listen to the games together,” Williams said.

Look, dad, here’s your son, keeping his part of the bargain.

Williams set up camp in the military section of Greenwood Forest Lawn Cemetery after an all-day drive from North Carolina.

His dad died at age 53 in 1980. A Navy veteran.

This shot needs to be framed and admired for generations to come. When you least expect it, sports has a way of just being so touching.
