Maybe Conor McGregor hasn’t gotten the memo?
The UFC is standing by their statement of McGregor offering up his 145lb title and the promotion not stripping him of it.
The title McGregor won last December hasn’t been defended since he KO’d Jose Aldo in 13-seconds. This is despite Conor having 3 fights since winning the belt and becoming the first simultaneous 2 division champion in UFC history.
Aldo was awarded the interim featherweight title last July at UFC 200 but hasn’t fought since. He will now become the undisputed champion and the winner of Max Holloway-Anthony Pettis will become the new interim champion.
Is having 2 interim champions, two undisputed champions and a featherweight belt ‘relinquished’ in less than a year confusing you?
Good, because there’s no honest justification for the musical chairs of titles in the division.
The ‘UFC 206 Countdown: Holloway vs. Pettis’ video tries to explain the situation but does little to clarify why everyone is fighting for second place while McGregor parades his two belts around the world.
