The New York Post is reporting that Patriots owner Robert Kraft would like his Super Bowl ring back from Russian President Vladimir Putin, and the Pats boss is hopeful his buddy Donald Trump can aid in the recovery.
The Patriots have won four Super Bowls (2002, 2004, 2005, 20015). Upon meeting back in 2005, Kraft let Putin try on one of the rings and the Russian leader fell in love with the piece of jewelry. When Kraft asked for his ring back, Putin allegedly pocketed the ring and took off. This was essentially billionaire chain snatching.
Kraft understands how Putin could get attached to the ring and is willing to make him his own, if he would return the original. Kraft knows his buddy Trump will be in close contact with Putin over the next four years, saying:
I was willing to have one made with his name on it. Maybe we will have the new president bring it to him when he connects with him.
The ring is obviously very sentimental to the Pats owner and maybe Trump can help him retrieve it. However, Putin doesn’t strike me as the kind of man who will just give something back he took and has held for twelve years. Would you put it past him to hold it for ransom? If he does, what is Trump willing to give up to get the ring back for his friend? Yes, this is real life.
