Kevin Durant has had a long journey this season since he joined the Warriors. In addition with trying to prove himself, he continues to provide us with explanations. Durant shared why he didn’t want to play for the Wizards.
The Warriors will visit the Wizards and this is something worth discussing. One of the teams that was in the hunt for Kevin Durant just happened to be his hometown team, the Wizards. It’s a dream come true to play for your home team but Durant had other things in mind when it came to selecting a team. Playing at home is simply something he isn’t interested in because that part of his life is done.
With Durant set to return home to face the Washington Wizards on Tuesday, he explained to Tim Bontemps and Adam Kilgore of the Washington Post why he never even gave that squad a chance in free agency:
I don’t want to open up anything in the past, but I really just didn’t want to play at home. It was nothing about the fans. Being at home, I was so happy with that part of my life — playing at home, being in front of friends, hanging with friends and family every day. That was a part of my life that has come and gone.
In theory, it makes a lot of sense. You’re not the same person you once were and let’s face it-those friends probably aren’t even around anymore. It’s all apart of growing up and moving up the ladder.
“I did everything I was supposed to do in the D.C.-Maryland-Virginia area, I felt. Now it’s time to do something new,” Durant added. “It had nothing to do with basketball, the fans, the city.”
Maybe one day we’ll see Durant in a Wizards uniform but for now, we’ll have to wait and see.
