If there was a panel about the plight of the black woman in America and the panel consisted of five white men (which has probably happened at some point), you would say this makes no sense, these white men have no idea what they are talking about, they shouldn’t be speaking on this issue.
Sage Steele doesn’t want to be seen as black, her words not mine. She wants to be seen as mixed or white. She has clearly stated she wants her white mother, white husband and mixed children to be praised because they aren’t black. She has clearly stated she believes black people are the real racists in America and cause the majority of their own problems. She has not been shy about sharing these thoughts.
My mother is a perfect example. Raised by an Irish father and an Italian mother in a small Massachusetts town, she went against her parents’ wishes and married the black man she fell in love with. What she dealt with fresh off of the tumultuous civil rights era was horrific in so many ways — which is one of many reasons why she is the strongest, bravest woman I know. So, instead of rolling your eyes at my black father for “selling out”, shouldn’t you be praising my white mother for following her color-blind heart and not succumbing to the pressures of American society back then? Apparently not. How about now, more than 4 decades later? Instead of giving me those all-knowing looks of disgust and calling me a sell-out when you see pictures of me with my white husband, or see me with my very light-skinned bi-racial children, shouldn’t you be praising that “white boy” from Indiana who followed his color-blind heart and married into a bi-racial culture completely different from his own, to help create a beautiful, color-blind family?
Just read that statement, read it twice, read it aloud if need be.
She wants you to praise her white mother for I supposed taking pity on a black man. No mention on how her black father could have been lynched for just being around her mother, but that isn’t important to Sage. It is more important to praise her “white boy from Indiana” for being not a racist, like that is something to be praised for.
It is becoming dangerous to let Sage speak on these issues because she is empowering the already empowered white supremacists and racists that how come to the surface under Trump.
She sounds just like one when she says things like this on NBA Countdown.
According to Sage Steele if black people stop saying the word "nigga" white cops won't shoot unarmed black men b/c they disobeyed an order!

I don’t like the word Nigger or Nigga or whatever variation you want to say, but I am also not an idiot, so I understand racism isn’t about what black people are saying or doing, it is about what is being done to us.
To always point the finger back at black people for something that we did not cause or ask for is extremely dangerous, ignorant and downright frightening for someone in Sage Steele’s position.
When Sage Steele’s speaks many white people co-sign and that is a problem. There is a reason she is ostracized and no one really befriends her in black media.
I am all for people in media using their voice, but ESPN has about 30 other people more equipped to speak on these sensitive issues than a wannabe white woman who if she could get all the black sucked out of her. I suggest they start letting those other people speak on these things UNLESS their views are more aligned with Sage, which would be even scarier than Sage speaking herself.
