Following the deaths of multiple residents, the Georgia Department of Public Health is taking extra steps to warn the public of an influx of fake Percocets currently flooding the streets.
Fox 11 is reporting that four people are dead and more than a dozen have been hospitalized after consuming a yellow street drug they believed to be Percocet. Officials say the cases were reported within a 48 hour period in the areas of Centerville, Perry, Macon, Warner Robins and Albany.
First responders report that consumers were found unconscious or unresponsive and had difficulty breathing or stopped breathing, and many of them required ventilators.
According to CBS News, some of the affected people told nurses and doctors that they swallowed just one pill before becoming ill.
Investigations by the GBI, Poison Control Center and Georgia Drugs and Narcotics agency are currently underway. Investigators are asking that anyone who finds a similar drug to call law enforcement and avoid touching it.
