It’s prom season, and every year you can expect to see the unexpected.
Saudia Shuler went the extra mile and then some for her son’s prom in North Philly. Spending around $25,000 dollars on a Dubai inspired prom set up. Items including Dubai themed sets, a Lamborghini, Range Rover and Rolls Royce for the evening.
Shuler also went as far as purchasing three tons of sand, and rented a camel from a farm in Ohio. All for her son Johnny “JJ” Eden, Jr., initially planning to send him on a trip to Dubai for his high school graduation, Saudia decided to bring Dubai to Philadelphia.
Working a week straight to create the elaborate sets the whole set up took countless hours of help from Shuler’s friends and family. Besides the three sets, and three different luxury cars, Eden also had his pick of three different dates. All wearing their own custom dresses.
If you think that’s over the top ”JJ” made several costume changes himself, three to be exact. Now in recent years prom send offs have been over the top. But this one, I’ll say takes the cake.
When asked the reasoning behind the extravagant send off Saudia said,
“I just wanted to do something no one had ever seen before,” A promise she said she made to herself on her deathbed.
“I was messed up,” Shuler recalled. Three years ago she had a stroke.
“I couldn’t walk for year and a half. I couldn’t wipe my butt.”In 2007, she got hit by a car and was left with a slipped disc, taking her out of commission as a hairstylist. It was after she turned to cooking, selling platters out of her grandmother’s house in North Philly, that the stroke hit.
She vowed that if she lived to see him graduate, no one would stop her from going all out.
Hundreds lined the block to see Eden make his way to prom. The now viral video is making it’s rounds on the web and it’s clear that Shuler accomplished her goal.
