Former Minnesota Vikings, Indianapolis Colts and Tampa Bay buccaneers Safety De’Von Hall, is accused of murdering his mother. According to the LA Times, Hall has a history of mental illness.
De’von Hall was found standing over his mother’s bloody body. One of the nearby residents, Brandeis Eubanks, dialed 911.
“He hit her. He stomped her out,” he told the dispatcher. “They got in a tussling match and next thing you know she was on the ground and he was stomping her out.”
Los Angeles County Judge Yvette Verastegui has ordered a mental evaluation of Hall and has suspended criminal charges until that is complete.
Earlier this year, the family of De’Von Hall stated that they felt that his mental illness was a side effect of repeated blows to the head from playing football.
“He turned into something that became vicious,” he said, “and that was the sport he was in. The move vicious, the more accolades you get.”
Hall was living with his mother during her final two months. The murder took place on April 24, 2017 inside her home. The family took her off life support four days later.
Hall is being held on a $1 million bail and has refused to see any family members or visitors. His family members thinks that he doesn’t realize that he killed his mother. He is represented by a public defender, who entered a motion to argue that he is not mentally competent to stand trial.
