The king of the dab, some say, Superman, yes Cam Newton.
The hits Newton has taken in the NFL has concerned his former college football coach Gus Malzahn.
“With all the referees in the NFL, and all that, they need to protect him like they do the rest of the quarterbacks,” Auburn’ Gus Malzahn said Thursday at SEC Media Days.
After their 15-1 season in 2015 ended in a Super Bowl loss to the Denver Broncos, Newton had a rough year in 2016.
In 2016 Newton wasn’t Dabbing as much, players were trying to take his head off each play, more physical, basically sending a message to Newton.
Players, all season were indeed taking shots at Newton and some of them were legal, not to mention the Panthers offense has Newton running the ball a bit much.
Opening night Thursday, September 8, in Denver Newton was beat down and that’s where it started.
After the game Panthers coach Ron Rivera said Newton was getting treated like former NBA star center Shaquille O’Neal in the game.
Basically, he wasn’t getting the fair calls that he deserved because of his size like the other quarterbacks, Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, and Drew Brees to name a few.
Malzahn spoke about Newton coming back to Auburn and helping out the youth during his rough 2016 season.
“He’s got a great heart for youth and the things he does off the field (for kids). Cam will come back from time to time,” Malzahn said. “I think he was at two of our games last year. When he has time, he likes to come back to Auburn. It feels like home to him, and I’m very proud of him.”
Throw the flag and Newton start sliding more, watch Russell Wilson.
