Damian Lillard’s annual picnic for his hometown was a success. In the midst of it all, he spoke about some important topics such as the NFL and Colin Kaepernick. In his response, he labeled out some key differences.
When you read, make sure you read between the lines because you might be missing lots of insights. Damian Lillard kept it brief but his words spoke volumes.
Your employer is supposed to protect you from managers. In other words, the NFL has not protected Colin Kaepernick at all from teams, who in this case happen to be managers. Where is human resources to back him? However, Lillard pointed out something key, “They’re not willing to give him a job because of what he’s doing. I think that’s the bigger problem.
Lillard called Kaepernick’s situation “unfortunate” for him.
“It’s almost like they are just telling you not to stand for what you believe in. ‘Do what we say or we got control. You won’t have a job.’ And what he wants to do as a person and who he is as a person, that’s up to him. Now, I think it says more that they’re not willing to give him a job because of what he’s doing. I think that’s the bigger problem,” Lillard said.
Adam Silver recently spoke out for all players and offered support if they want to participate in social activism. At least the NBA understands. I wonder where MLB stands on this topic but then again, in a league that’s so antiquated, I would be surprised to see support.
