Florida State University has suspended all sororities and fraternities indefinitely following the alcohol-related death of a freshman pledge and cocaine charges for a member of a different fraternity.
Pi Kappa Phi freshman pledge Andrew Coffey, was found unresponsive on Friday following a house party. The fraternity was suspended at that time.
The decision to suspend all Greek life came on Monday when Phi Delta Theta member Garrett John Marcy faced charges of selling and trafficking cocaine.
University president John Thrasher made the announcement on Monday adding that the university has also banned alcohol at all Recognized Student Organization events during the suspension.
The ban prohibits new member events, chapter meetings, chapter organized tailgates, socials, philanthropy, retreats, and intramurals.
