After realizing that he was going to need work done on his shoulder, Martellus Bennett was waived by the Green Bay Packers and days later he was claimed by the New England Patriots. Bennett saw six or seven doctors over the past week to seek opinions on his shoulder. After seeing these doctors, Bennett was going to have a procedure done on his shoulder to fix the issue, then he was waived by the Packers.
After being waived, Bennett told his agent to tell teams not to claim him because he had decided that he was still going to go through with the procedure and fix his shoulder. Then Bill Belichick called and everything changed. “No (expletive) way,” was Bennett’s reaction when he heard that the Patriots had claimed him off of waivers. Bennett says, “It’s not about, ‘Could you play?’ It’s, ‘Should you play?’ It was one of those things.”
With all of the back and forth on could he or should he play, Bennett had accepted his fate and started looking for jobs outside of football. The job he was close to taking was with a desk job at Netflix. Details on what the exact position was have not been released, but that’s quite the change in profession. Instead of working at Netflix headquarters in Los Gatos, California Bennett was suited up for the Patriots in Denver on Sunday night where he registered three catches for 38 yards. It was quite the week for Bennett, but it’s nice to see him continue doing what he loves.
