After posting a 52-30 record and returning to the playoffs for the first time since 2012, the Sixers have a very young and talented team that has earned themselves the label of a hot commodity for free agents. One of the interested prospects is LeBron James.
Keith Pompey of the Philadelphia Inquirer is reporting that the Sixers are prepared to do whatever it takes to acquire James in free agency. Philly is also one of the few teams that can clear enough space to sign James. James could earn as much as $35 million per year.
The Rockets looked like they could also be in pursuit of James but they recently came out saying that they don’t want to ruin the chemistry they have now by letting key pieces go in order to get James. They’re currently in the Western Conference Finals vs the Warriors.
Unrestricted free agents for the Sixers include J.J Redick, Ersan Ilysova and Marco Belinelli. All three have been clutch shooters for Philadelphia this season so it’ll be interesting to see who is retained. Redick has expressed his love for playing in Philly so expect him to take a paycut in order for them to sign James.
The Cavaliers have had a very rocky 2017-18 season and this is without a doubt the worst team that James has been on. The Sixers are one piece away from contending in the East and James could very well be the answer in bringing another title to Philadelphia. James could also not have to do so much in regards to putting the whole team on his back as he would have superstars in the making on his side in Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons.
