Seattle Mariners star Robinson Cano was just handed down a huge 80-game suspension for violating MLB’s Joint Drug Prevention and Treatment Program. Cano was found to have diuretic Furosemide.
In 2018, Cano has 24 runs, 41 hits, four home runs, and 23 RBIs. He has been one of baseball’s brightest stars and this definitely hurts Seattle’s playoff chances despite their solid 23-17 start to the season. This also comes after Cano broke his hand this week.
Cano came to his own defense in a statement he released as he said he didn’t know the drug he used was banned, according to the New York Post.
“Furosemide is used to treat various medical conditions in the United States and the Dominican Republic,” said Cano. “This substance was given to me by a licensed doctor in the Dominican Republic to treat a medical ailment. While I did not realize at the time that I was given a medication that was banned, I obviously now wish that I had been more careful.”
