“I’m Lovin’ It” has ended up being one of the most popular songs/slogans in fast food history. Pusha T helped created it but slept on its potential and that caused him to miss out on a huge check, according to him on The Drinks Champs Podcast.
“I took a super L,” said Pusha. “Just upfront, no publishing. Shoutout to Steve Stoute, he gave me the check and I was like ‘Ahhh great.”
Pusha’s name was credited on Justin Timberlake’s “I’m Lovin It” which was written for McDonald’s. Pusha earned $500,000 from this but he did not want to keep his own share of the publishing and that caused him to miss out on some really big royalty checks.
“I want artists to know that part. Keep your publishing. That check will be nice, but ‘I’m Lovin’ It’ been running for how long now? I did This in ‘03. Who knows what it would have been,” Pusha says.
Pusha noted that he did bounce back from this mistake as he partnered with Arby’s and owns 40% of their “We have the meats” slogan. He is also still riding the success from his new ‘Daytona‘ album.
