Over the weekend another shooting tragedy took place in Jacksonville, Florida during a Madden ’19 NFL tournament where a player took out his frustrations about losing in the worst way possible. David Katz who is a 24 year old gamer opened fire on the participants and attendants of the tournament killing 2 people and injuring himself.
TMZ Sports caught up with Ex-NBA player who is an avid video gamer and questioned whether the argument that video games are leading individuals to become violent and therefore have a negative affect on people. Hibbert response was reported by TMZ Sports,
“The conversation shouldn’t be on video games,” Hibbert says … “It should be on the other thing. And you know what the other thing is.”
…..He would still support his kids trying to be pro gamers, if that’s what they wanted … citing the 6-figure salaries some pro gamers are making.
According to TMZ Sports, Trump has been briefed on the situation but has yet to publicly speak on the tragedy. David Katz is a white male and more than likely part of the problem that Hibbert is alluding to which is gun control in America. Trump has the backing of the NRA and does not want to upset his MAGA base who are in favor of weak gun laws.
This tragedy is yet more proof that guns are too readily accessible and too many people are losing their lives in senseless violence. Hopefully this incident forces the conversation on gun control to grow louder and take some steps to actually have laws in place where individuals can’t gain access to guns. Furthermore a lot of these weapons used in these mass shootings are military weapons that civilians should nto have access to.
