Eyebrows were raised early this morning when most woke up to the news that Khalil Mack, Raiders Pro-Bowl defensive end and 2nd in the NFL in sacks over the course of the last 3 seasons, was traded by Raiders Head Coach Jon Gruden to the Chicago Bears for 2019 1st and 6th round picks and 2020 1st and 3rd round picks.
This is sure to shake up the team dynamic as Mack was a leader of the Raiders and reportedly a well liked figure in the locker room. But it didn’t take long for Mack to settle down to business with his new team, putting ink to paper on what is now an NFL record for a defensive player with his new $141 million contract.
Here are the details on Khalil Mack’s new contract:
- $141 million, 6-year deal with $90 million guaranteed
- $60 million will be paid to Mack at signing
- In 2018 Mack will be paid $7 in base salary
- $34 million signing bonus
- Mack will be paid an average of $23.5 million per year
- Mack can potentially opt-out in 2022
Overall, Khalil Mack’s contract beats out Los Angeles Rams defensive tackle Aaron Donald’s contract as the highest in NFL history after Aaron Donald inked a six-year, $135 million extension on Friday that includes $87 million guaranteed.
