Kevin Durant’s played his first NBA season in Seattle for the Supersonics, before they moved to Oklahoma City in 2008. His love for Seattle has been reiterated constantly and Durant is not known for the surprises, but he teamed up with Mitchell & Ness and created the best surprise the fans could’ve never seen coming.
The sell out crowd at KeyArena, who gave Kevin Durant a round of applause every move he made in warm-ups. But the former Longhorn set the tone for the night by wearing a Shawn Kemp jersey with green and gold sneakers smiling. The top blew off the arena as Kevin Durant’s euphoric feeling of basketball in Seattle resonated with him in that moment.
Kevin Durant admitted he was nervous after his pregame nap in his post-game presser. “I had never felt that way coming into a game, especially a preseason game.” He credited Klay Thompson’s 19 point first quarter for getting the offensive going and himself against the Sacramento Kings. “He just went out there played and knocked down shots.”
Durant scored 26 points at what felt like a Seattle Sonic’s homecoming which was icing on the cake before the season. The city once again made a case for a team to arrive back in the city, with loyal fans and a love for basketball.
“We would support a team,” Durant said. “We’re going to keep saying it until it happens. All of us here. Everybody in that arena. Every NBA player knows it.” “Hopefully the NBA does what it’s supposed to do.”
