The first reaction to this story is here were go again, another example of dining while black in America. Twitter user @Masudaliii posted a video of his experience at a Chipotle in Minnesota, that details a manager refusing to serve him or his friends until they proved they were able to pay for their meal.
The exchange caught on camera was shocking, disrespectful, and racist at first glance. It stirred up many emotions as the clip went viral across social media sites. How could this manager deny some kids food over a $7 dollar meal I wondered? The teen posted a series of videos of the alleged mistreatment and Chipotle responded by firing the manager immediately. Chipotle gave this statement:
@masudali what happened here is not how our employees should treat our customers. We are committed to treating all of our guests fairly and with respect. The manager has been terminated and the restaurant has been retrained so this doesn’t happen again. We’ll be back in touch.
It looked like another case of discriminatory behavior at a restaurant, but new details have begun to trickle in. It turns out that the teen who posted the videos has several Twitter posts in which he brags about dining at Chipotle and other restaurants and leaving without paying. Chipotle is sticking with their termination of the manager for now, but things may change as more details unfold. This is a complicated story as you will see, since these teens may have exploited a legitimate social justice issue over a 7$ meal. All I can do right now is shake my head.
Flip the pages for the videos of the incident along with the dine and dash tweets from @Masudaliii and you decide if this manager deserved to be fired.
