Missed free throws and easy buckets lead to Andrew Wiggins and the Minnesota Timberwolves losing a nail-bitter to the Atlanta Hawks, 123-120 in overtime.
Wiggins, who is one of the leaders and stars on this Wolves team, did not show up for his team on Friday night. Wiggins went 5-for-12 from the free throw line, despite holding an average of 74 percent throughout his career. This disappointing performance, from the former first overall pick, did not sit well with the Minnesota fan base and consequently lead to boos’ stretching all across the arena.
The boos were not appreciated by Wiggins.
“That’s fans for you,” Wiggins said. “We’ve got some s—ty fans, and we’ve got some good fans. That’s just how it works.” via ESPN
Tonight was not the Wolves night, Wiggins forgot to wear his jersey underneath his warm-ups, the team shot 21-of-36 from the free throw line, and they let Atlanta score a season-high of 42 points in the first quarter.
“It happens,” Wiggins says. “It’s one of those days and one of those games.” via ESPN
Wiggins is such an intricate piece to this Minnesota playoff puzzle that he, nor the team, could afford to see him struggle as he did tonight.
Derrick Rose had 25 points tonight in the loss to the Hawks but did leave the game late with a sprained ankle.
