Prada announced on Wednesday that they will be naming producer and director Ava DuVernay as the Co-Chair of their Diversity and Inclusion Council. This comes just days after backlash and threats of boycotting over the Gucci blackface sweater saga. Prada also saw it’s share of the outrage after having to pull a design of a $550 monkey key chain from its website.
DuVernay will serve alongside Theaster Gates an artist and activist, as well as other cultural leaders and educators as part of it’s mission to promote inclusion within the fashion industry. This will include scholarships and training programs in the United States and Prada offices abroad.
“Prada is committed to cultivating, recruiting and retaining diverse talent to contribute to all departments of the company,” Miuccia Prada, CEO and Lead Creative Director of Prada said.
