Lil Uzi Vert has been retired from music since the start of the year after voicing his frustration with DJ Drama and Don Cannon not letting him put out his second album ‘Eternal Atake.’ Drama and Cannon have since denied that by saying that Uzi can drop the album whenever he wants. This is all part of their Generation Now label. On Friday though, Uzi was supposed to appear on Nav’s ‘Bad Habits‘ album but according to Nav, Uzi’s verse didn’t get cleared by Drama and Cannon.
It seems that Uzi is getting out of this troubling situation as according to Complex, he is now being managed by Roc Nation. His business and legal situations will be handled. Earlier today, he posted a video of himself making new music in the studio. He thanked Roc Nation in the video and said “Free Uzi.”
In another video posted, he said in a caption “If you want your album 2 drop Number One rule don’t hang with the boss girlfriend. “If you want your album 2 drop be patient let the guilty answer all the blogs. FREE UZI.”
Uzi hanging with Drama’s girl is definitely bad but that shouldn’t legally prevent him from dropping an album. This looks like a petty move by Drama.
Roc Nation bailed Lil Wayne out in 2015 as well to be able to put out his ‘Free Weezy Album.‘ Uzi’s situation is a clear example of why artists should experiment with staying independent before signing with record labels and people in general. It’s good to see that he’s getting closer to put out his Eternal Atake album though. The first single is ‘New Patek’ which dropped last summer.
