The show started out with a young boy climbing a tree trying to see Danerys Targaryen and Jon snow arrive with the massively united Unsullied and Dothraki army’s. This was most definitely a call back from Season 1 when Bran was climbing high to witness King Robert Baratheon and the Lannister Army arriving in Winterfell.
The next scene showed Arya in the crowd of people watching and she instantly became a trending topic on twitter. She’s always been a fan favorite so this is not at all surprising.
After this Jon and Danerys were shown on screen for the first time this season and they also instantly became trending topics. The scene was trying to show that the North wasn’t to fund of the idea that Danerys made her way to Winterfell and also as Jon’s Queen. Sansa and Bran were shown in the follwing scene and the Danerys Vs Sansa showdown started. Jon has his emotional reunions with Bran and Arya for the first time since season 1!
Cersei was shown as the villain that she is while awaiting the Golden Company Army she purchased from overseas to betray Danerys and keep the Iron throne to herself. Euron Greyjoy showed up slightly afterwards requesting he be rewarded for his service to her….by requesting intercourse from Queen Cersei. Cersei dropped a classic line telling him to “Earn It”, But he ended up “earning it” 30 seconds later anyway.
While Euron was busy with Cersei , Theon made his first appearance as he jumped on Euron’s ship to save his captured sister Yara. He saved her and she thanked him with a head butt followed by a hug. He informed her that he wishes to fight with the Starks against the Night King’s army despite her wanting to return home to the Iron Islands. She grants him his request and they go their separate ways.
Jon rides a dragon! He and Danerys break apart from everybody in Winterfell for …some alone time. She basically tells him if he wishes to have that “alone time” he best jump on the dragon and follow her…Which he surely did.
Sam Tarley makes his first appearance as Danerys returned to Winterfell and sought him out to thank him for saving her good friend Jorah Mormont a couple of seasons ago. She didn’t realize who he really was and regrettably told him about her having to kill both his father and brother for treason. Sam clearly doesn’t take this well and leaves. He finds Bran and is told by him to tell Jon Snow about his true lineage. Sam finds Jon in the Crypts where Jon is found praying by Ned Stark’s tomb. Sam tells Jon about Danerys killing his brother and father. And shortly after he revealed to Jon his true lineage. This was probably the biggest scene in the shows history.
Arya reunited with both Gendry and The Hound. She and Gendry seemed to tease a possible liking of each other. Meanwhile she and The Hound kickstarted their relationship all over again. They’ve always had a weird bond, but he truly shows care for her.
The last scene showed Tormoud and Berick Dondarrion whom both many thought to be dead back at The Wall. The pair along with the rest of the men who survived the attack on the Wall last season were creeping through the rubble trying to get out. They ran into the commander of the Night’s Watch, Edd and his men while lurking in the dark expecting possible members of the Night King’s army. Both parties continue the journey together as they run into a corpse nailed to the wall who was revealed as the young Lord Umber. Lord Umber was sent by Sansa earlier in the episode to retrieve his men and bring them to Winterfell for the war to come. The White Walkers nailed him to the wall as a message that his army is indeed in between The Wall and Winterfell. The show ended with Umber coming back to life as a “zombie” and Dondarrion stabing him with his fire sword.
