It’s all a matter of time before Ty Lue becomes the next head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers.
Aside from being stepped over by A.I., Lue is most known for coaching LeBron in Cleveland for two and a half seasons. Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports details how the deal is fait accompli.
The Los Angeles Lakers and Tyronn Lue are in the process of working on a contract agreement that would make Lue the franchise’s next head coach, league sources told Yahoo Sports.
Lue, 42, has not accepted the position yet as both sides continue to focus on contractual parameters, sources said. If Lue takes the job, Frank Vogel — former coach of the Indiana Pacers and Orlando Magic — could join his staff as a lead assistant, sources said. Kurt Rambis — a former Lakers player and coach whose wife, Linda, is a trusted confidant and adviser to team owner Jeanie Buss — has had a significant role in the hiring process, sources said.
Earlier we reported on Ty Lue celebrating his 42nd Birthday over the weekend in Las Vegas with a Lakers themed cake. Lue would be the third consecutive Head Coach for the Lakers who previously suited up for the purple and gold. His potential assistant coaches are a bit of a mixed bag. Vogel would be an excellent addition and has a proven track record of success as a head coach. Rambis on the other hand leaves a lot to be desired, with many critics of his coaching style after two stops as head coach with the T-Wolves and Knicks .
