The Toronto Raptors are in the NBA Finals for the first time in franchise history.
Tied at 1 game apiece with the Golden State Warriors, the Raptors are experiencing unprecedented success.
Much of that success has been on the back of superstar Kawhi Leonard.
The player that he was traded for, DeMar DeRozan, believes that the Raptors wouldn’t be there if it wasn’t for him.
Speaking with Taylor Rooks on “Take It There”, DeRozan shared his thoughts on the Raptors in the Finals without him and more.
DeRozan, who spent his entire career with the Raptors before being traded to San Antonio for Leonard, says he was the,
“…sacrificial lamb”,
that allowed the Raptors to experience their current success.
DeRozan goes on to say that he is rooting for his best friend Kyle Lowry in the Finals, but understands why the Raptors ultimately trade him.
Its a fascinating look into DeRozan who by all accounts still has tremendous feelings for his old organization.
Ultimately we will see if the move to get Leonard for DeRozan will land the Raptors a title.
