Toronto Raptors superstar Kawhi Leonard has sued Nike claiming the company illegally used his logo.
This according to Matthew Kish of the Portland Business Journal.
Leonard alleges that his ‘Klaw’ logo was copyrighted by Nike without his permission.
The lawsuit also states that Leonard created the logo and Nike, unbeknownst to him, ‘falsely’ claimed creation of the logo.
The suit further alleges that the logo is an extension of Leonard’s drawings that he started in college and he only gave permission to Nike to use the logo on,
“…certain merchandise.”
Leonard is now with the shoe company New Balance.
According to the suit Leonard’s contract with Nike ended back in September of 2018.
He alleges that he asked Nike to stop using the logo in 2018, and Nike responded back saying they owned,
“all intellectual property rights”,
to the logo.
Leonard is seeking to use the logo on all clothing wear, and other products., in addition to using it for charity functions and sports camps.
