Hassan Whiteside was supposed to be one of the most dominant centers in the NBA but we still haven’t reached that point yet. His time in Miami could be running out soon too, according to Tim Reynolds of the Associated Press.
Whiteside is expected to opt into the final year of his contract with Miami this offseason. Whiteside would earn $27.1 million. Despite doing this, he’s expected to ask for a trade as well.
I’m definitely going to weigh my options,” Whiteside said to The Miami Herald back in April. “It’s definitely a decision I got to make and do the best for me. I feel like if I’m playing, I’m going to produce so it will take care of itself.”
Whiteside’s been with the Heat since 2014. Last season, he averaged 12 points and 11 rebounds per game. Miami nearly made the playoffs this past season but missed out on the final day of the season to the Pistons. With the possible departure of Whiteside, their playoff chances for 2019-20 seems even more slim.
