It’s disappointing people have to receive heavy criticism to change their massive mistakes, but here we are.
If you didn’t see last week, Tennessee Governor Bill Lee signed a proclamation. This so called proclamation would declare July 13th of 2019 as the “honorary” Nathan Bedford Forrest day.
Disgraceful.
But wait, there’s a so called “reason” for this….disgusting act.
Forrest, a Confederate army general and a KKK grand wizard, is one of 4 Confederate figures and such, who by Tennessee state law, have to be observed by the government.
Per state law, the Tennessee governor is tasked with issuing proclamations for six separate days of special observation, three of which, including the July 13 Forrest Day, pertain to the Confederacy.
Considering that this is a law in a rather interesting state in Tennessee should surprise no one. The fact that the law was created in 1921 and hasn’t been changed since should also surprise no one. That’s NINETY EIGHT years to do the absolute right thing and abolish the despicable law.
But alas.
The other 2 Confederate figures and more that are supposed to be honored by Tennessee are who you think they are.
Lee — and governors who have come before him — are also required by state law to proclaim Jan. 19 as Robert E. Lee Day, honoring the commander of the Confederate Army, as well as June 3 Confederate Decoration Day, otherwise known as Confederate Memorial Day and the birthday of Confederate President Jefferson Davis.
Now this law was met with expected harsh criticism, so much criticism in fact that the Governor of Tennessee is backtracking about honoring the so called law.
