Could UFC be coming to Paris?
On June 24th the French minister of sports, Roxana Maracineanu announced on twitter that:
“As of 1 January 2020, the #MMA will therefore officially exist as a professional and amateur sports practice in France within the framework of defined by @Sports_gouv in harmony with the international landscape of this discipline.” (translated from French).
Currently France is accepting applications for a national sports federation to oversee and regulate Mixed Martial Arts in the country.
The French ministry of sport banned the octagon cage and ground fighting in 2016 when it said:
“Fights will take place on a carpet or in a ring with three or four ropes. The corners of the ring will be protected… Punches, kicks or strikes with the knees against a fighter on the ground; any strike with the elbow;”
It is one of the few European countries that bans Mixed Martial Arts. France is home to many MMA fighters including the second ranked UFC Heavyweight Francis Ngannou (13-3-0) fighting out of the MMA Factory in Paris.
