Carolina Panthers fans are collectively holding their breath.
Panthers star and former MVP Cam Newton left Thursday night’s game with a left ankle and foot injury while playing against the New England Patriots.
Newton was making his preseason debut after dealing with a shoulder injury a season ago.
He left the game after suffering a sack during the first quarter as Newton could be seen on the sidelines visibly upset and in pain after the injury.
Newton has had surgery previously on his left ankle back in 2014.
The 30-year-old QB finished 4-6 for 30 yards during 3 drives and was sacked twice.
While the hit did not seem out of the ordinary, Newton clearly was in pain and the Panthers removed him as precaution.
Newton was seen leaving with a walking boot and according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport it is a sprained foot.
