We often see people make a fortune off of cashing in on fake merchandise such as shoes. This was the case for a man in Queens, NY as he trafficked $5 million in fake Timberland and UGG boots, according to the New York Post.
Hai Long Huang is the man responsible and has shipped in these counterfeit boots from China to America since 2011. A complaint filed in a Manhattan court states that he has transported thousands of these boots in shipping containers. In NY, they were sold on tables at Delancey and Suffolk streets.
The documents added that the boots came in looking like regular ones without any name brands stamped on it but Huang added them. He knew they’d sell successfully if they had names such as UGG and Timberland attached to them. Feds were able to track down Huang after undercover agents purchased a good amount of the boots .
“Some of these boots are produced to resemble Timberland and UGG boots in design and color, but significantly, are ‘generic,’” the complaint states. “That is, these boots are imported into the United States without the inclusion of logos that are trademarks registered with the United States Patent and Trademark office.”
Huang will appear in a Manhattan federal court tomorrow to face charges of trafficking counterfeit goods. This will continue to be a common theme in America but it’ll be interesting to see who else gets caught selling these large amounts of fake clothing and shoes.
