This weekend will be a busy one for boxing fans. Top Rank, PBC and DAZN are all hosting events with notable boxers on Saturday. It promises to be a full weekend, with some beefing undefeated young fighters, some more experienced fighters making weight adjustments in hopes of finding their rhythm, and a fight in London. Here’s what you should be watching for:
Regis Prograis vs Josh Taylor. This is the fight with the most on the line. Regis Prograis and Josh Taylor will face each other at the 02 Arena in London-England. What’s on the line? The WBA super lightweight title, the WBC Diamond super lightweight title, the IBF super lightweight title, the Ring Magazine super lightweight title and the Muhammad Ali trophy. This promises to be a great fight. Regis Prograis and Josh Taylor are both unbeaten. Both are southpaws. Both are Titleholders (Prograis holds the WBA title and Taylor holds the IBF title). They are the number 1 and number 2 ranked super lightweights. After Saturday, there will be a clear number 1.
The fight can be streamed on DAZN with the main card scheduled for 4:00 p.m. Eastern Time, 1:00 p.m. Pacific.
Joet Gonzalez vs Shakur Stevenson. This is the fight that is sure to have some drama. Shakur Stevenson and Joet Gonzalez are both unbeaten. The fight is for the vacant WBO featherweight title. Gonzalez and Stevenson have had very different paths to this fight and have both scoffed at the path of one another. Stevenson, who was an Olympic Silver medalist, says that Gonzalez is jealous that he is already up for a title when it took him several years to get a title shot. Gonzales believes that Shakur has taken the easy route and had this opportunity handed to him. Adding to the animosity is the fact that Stevenson is dating Gonzales’ sister. This one isn’t just business, it’s personal. Both are good fighters who have never tasted defeat. Someone’s -0 has got to go.
The fight can be watched on ESPN+ at 10:00 p.m. Eastern Time/7:00 p.m. Pacific.
Robert Easter Jr. vs Adrian Granados. This fight is the tale of two men at 140. Robert Easter has historically fought at 135, but struggled prompting him to move to 140, where he believes that he will have to cut less muscle to be successful. On the other side is Adrian Granados, who has historically fought at 147, but struggled there. Granados is moving down, hoping to dominate against naturally smaller opponents that the ones he has faced recently. Easter is coming off a loss to Mikey Garcia and a split decision draw versus Rances Barthelemey. Adrian Granados is coming off a loss by stoppage to Danny Garcia. Both are looking to turn things around.
The fight can be watched on Showtime at 9:00 p.m. Eastern Time/6:00 p.m. Pacific.
